In this tour it is possible to visit the historical center of Catania with its streets, squares and historical markets, and at the same time taste the typical flavors that our beloved Catania offers.
Let you discover this culinary adventure will be a tourist operator, whom you will meet at our Catania office and will then take you to the Giardino Bellini (called “a Villa”), one of the four main parks of Catania located near the central via Etnea, where the tour will begin. Once you leave the Giardino Bellini, the first step towards taste will take you to taste the typical Sicilian Arancino; the name derives from the original shape (round) and the typical golden color, reminiscent of an orange, but it must be said that in eastern Sicily the arancini have more often a conical shape, to symbolize the Etna volcano. Our tour will continue along one of the most famous streets of Catania, via Etnea, also known as the “living room” of the city where the Baroque and Liberty style meet in a pleasant union, creating a harmony that few cities are able to express. Walking we will meet noble palaces, historic squares and Greco-Roman theaters left behind by ancient colonizations that are always present in our city.
The second stage of taste will be dedicated to the inevitable “canni di cavaddu arrustuta” (roasted horse meat on the grill), a true typical Catanese dish, you will have the opportunity to choose between various types of tasting (in the strong package your tasting will be accompanied with good wine).The third stage will take you to one of the most fascinating streets of Catania, via dei Crociferi where we will stop to admire the countless churches that surround the street. After the visit, the next half will be the famous “Pescheria”, the old fish market, where you will have the opportunity to smell the good fish accompanied by the screams of the fishermen who in a spectacular way try to attract the attention of visitors, to sell them the fish. At the fish market we will let you taste some excellent typical Sicilian cheeses accompanied by a good glass of wine, and only for the Tour Strong it has also provided a cone of fried fish.The fourth stage of taste will lead us to discover one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, Piazza Duomo, seat of the cathedral and the Baroque heart of Catania, where you will be able to see the symbol of the city, namely “u Liotru”, a statue in lava stone,depicting an elephant, located in the center of the square; to refresh your taste buds we will let you taste a seltz, lemon and salt, a typical non-alcoholic Catania drink. The fifth stage of taste will take you to visit, crossing various squares and streets, Piazza Teatro Massimo where the homonymous Massimo Bellini Theater is located, an icon of Catanese opera. We will conclude the tour by crossing “fera o ‘luni”, the largest and oldest market in Catania, all not before having finished the last tasting of one of our typical Catanese desserts, such as delicious ice cream or perhaps a characteristic cannoli with ricotta.
Once out of the fair we will conclude the tour and greet each other at the corner of via Etnea and via Umberto.
