Catania Typical Street-Food

The first stage towards taste will take you to taste the typical Catanese Arancino whose characteristic is the conical shape to symbolize the Etna volcano. An unmissable stop for those who love local markets is the “fera o’ luni”, the largest and oldest market in Catania. We will continue in the direction of Via Etnea, also known as the “living room” of the city where the Baroque and Liberty styles meet in a pleasant union, creating a harmony that few cities are able to express. Walking we will encounter noble palaces, historic squares and Greek Roman theaters left by ancient colonizations always present in our city.

The second stage of taste will be dedicated to the inevitable “canni di cavaddu arrustuta” (horse meat roasted on the grill), the true Catania street food, you will have the possibility to choose between various types of tasting (in the strong package your tasting will be accompanied with good wine).

The third stop will take you to the famous old fish market called “Pescheria di Catania“, where among the bright colors and the screams of the fishermen you will smell the good local fish. It will be here that we will stop to taste some excellent typical Sicilian cheeses accompanied by a good glass of local wine (only for the Tour Strong a cone of mixed fried fish is also provided).

The fourth stage of taste will lead us to discover one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, Piazza Duomo, home of the cathedral and the baroque heart of Catania, where you will have the opportunity to see the symbol of the city, namely “u Liotru“, a statue in lava stone depicting an elephant, located in the center of the square; to refresh your taste buds we will let you taste a seltz, lemon and salt, a typical non-alcoholic Catanese drink.

The fifth stage of taste will take you to visit, crossing various squares and streets, Piazza Teatro Massimo where the homonymous Teatro Massimo Vincenzo Bellini, an icon of the Catanese Opera, is located. We will conclude the tour with the last tasting of our Catania street food, choosing from one of our typical Catanese desserts, such as the delicious ice cream or even a characteristic Sicilian cannoli with ricotta.
